Promoting and confirming into the post
I have been assigned duties of a senior post for 10 years now.
I have tried to write to my boss several times about re- designation, promoting and confirming me into the post but he has kept on saying that I wait for the wage bill to increase despite all the qualifications I have.
Please advise me.
Ten years is a long time for your boss to expect you to wait for recognition and reward for something you are already doing.
I would suggest you need to clarify that your manager understands and accepts that you are working above your pay grade.
You say you are “assigned duties of a senior post”. Is that the same thing as doing a role above yours, where you need to be “confirmed into the post”? You think you are acting in a post you are not confirmed in, does he?
So maybe you need to get hold of a job description, yours and the one for the role you say you are doing, and take your boss through them, demonstrating that you are entitled to be recognised and rewarded for your contribution in a more senior role , if appropriate.
Is anyone else in the same position? Why is he keeping such a tight hold on the wage bill? Is he the owner or an employee?
Are you ready, willing and able to take on more responsibility and work? Should you offer to take even more on to secure the promotion?
If you have qualifications, maybe you should look around the job market and see what else is out there. If there is a good chance of you getting another, better position, maybe he might be more inclined to accommodate you in your current position.
